What Are Symptoms Of UTI?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I would appreciate an answer from a Urologist. My son thinks he has a UTI. He has tried Keflex 500 mg. and now a Sulfa Med 500 mg. and also Eltorodac 800 mg. for inflammation. The sulfa drug seemed to help some and he said he felt 65% normal. However, it is back and same symptoms have recurred. Symptoms are that he urinates and feels like he needs to do so again. Or he dribbles some. Or as the end of his urinating he feels "it is hard" If that makes sense. No burning or pain associated with urination. So maybe an inflamed prostate also. Btw, when he was much younger, they thought he had a urecal remnant (not sure of spelling). Don't know if this would have any baring on it or not. Can you give us some idea of what we might be dealing with. I assume a Urology visit is the next step. Of course, he is quite concerned it is something serious.

Brief Answer:
Needs further test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 30 years old son has UTI which was treated with antibiotics but has not resolved completely.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1)Have you done his urine culture ?
2) Have you done his Endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy) to confirm the diagnosis of Remnant of Uracus?

His symptom especially dribbling after urination or feeling of urge to pass urine after urination can be due to either
1) Incompletely eradicated UTI or
2) Remnant of Uracus.

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical assessment and get following basic tests done under his guidance.
1) Cystoscopy
2)Urine culture to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.
3) MRI to rule out remnant of Uracus.

In the mean while continue with medications that he is taking now.

Further treatment will depend upon the results of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
