Question: what are the side effects of raw honey?
Can it cause an upset stomach in some people.
Raw honey for me has been medicinal and I can digest it.Its the non raw honey that wreaks havoc to my system.
My best friend recently started using raw honey and believes that it is giving her stomach cramps. I know that there can be many other factors that may play a role stomach cramps. I just told her stop using it.
What is your advice?

Brief Answer:
Botulism and any sort of reaction.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
The side effects of raw honey are:
The most important is Botulism, in which the spores if present in raw honey can cause symptoms of food poisoning. These are in the form of cramps in the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, loose stools and fever.
Others are allergy as caused by pollen like sneezing, itching.

The simple thumb-rule of of any allergy is ''anything under the sun including the sun can cause allergy''. Hence honey whether raw or non-raw can cause any problem.
As in your case you have problem with non-raw honey.

It is good that you have asked your friend to stop raw honey, stomach cramps if the commonest complaint people talk about. And as a precaution your friend should never try honey in any form to avoid any seen or unforeseen complication.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask any related further query if you need to or if you feel there is a gap-of-communication.
