What Are The After Effects Of A Pressure Sore?
Question: What are the after effects of a pressure sore? I have had one on my leg for some time now . I don't expect the discoloring to go away, but I now have brownish, lumpy spots near and/or around the pressure soar that are sensitive to touch. These lumps seem to be spreading. My doctor didn't seem concerned, but said he could do a biopsy. Prior to making a decision in this regard, I would appreciate any advice you may have to offer.

The after effects of a pressure sore are:
The skin becomes tough, dry leathery, insensitive, may become a scab-like. Over a time may be very adherent in spite of being dead. If there is a secondary infection It may start separating from the periphery, ooze pus, smell and may need surgical excision and further care.
Your history is of the one on your leg.
* < brownish, lumpy spots near and/or around the pressure soar that are sensitive to touch > These are suggestive of a secondary infection forming granulomas, this is the reason of being sensitive to touch and spreading too.
I would advise to go for gram staining and culture-sensitivity, if there s discharge or to aspirate if the lumps are unbroken. This will give an idea. Yes, biopsy will certainly help a lot if there is no response to the best of the antibiotics and supportive treatment, which I hope you must have been put-on.
The pressure sore is a part which has less or no sensitivity. There has to be a reason as a long illness- in bed for a long time.
Is there any history like this?
