Question: My brother is about to undergo cervical disc surgery via the neck. How common is this proceedure and what are the risk? How will this affect his life. ie, exercise, work, walking, he is in the borderpatrol, will he jave to find a desk job after surgery or is this surgery as common as lasik eye surgery...

The surgery for cervical disc problems is becoming more common these days but it is not as simple and uncomplicated as a lasik eye surgery.
He will have to take adequate bed rest after surgery for proper recovery. Regular physiotherapy will be needed and it will take 6-8 weeks for being completely pain free. It is better to opt for a desk job after the surgery. Active exercises need to be avoided for at least 8 weeks.
