What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission Through Oral Sex?

Unlikely to be HIV related
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your query.
I understand that you are very anxious and worried after your recent oral sex incident. The chances of getting HIV from oral sex is about 1 in 1250. Secondly, the sinus infection which you developed after the incident is not indicative of HIV or STD. Oral thrush can develop after a course of antibiotics and again, this is not indicative of HIV. Oral thrush is a sign of HIV only in the late stages of infection when it results in AIDS and occurs as an opportunistic infection (i.e. after many years).
So, you don't have to worry too much, but to be on the safe side, inform your doctor and get yourself examined.

HIV has a window period.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The tests for STDs, except for HIV, are conclusive when done soon after the exposure. However for HIV test alone, the test will be conclusive only after a period of 3 months from the time of exposure. This is because the virus has a dormancy period or window period of 3 months before it can be detected by a standard HIV test.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Like I had mentioned earlier, all other STDs can be ruled out if the tests were negative. But for HIV alone, it takes 3 months for the test to detect the HIV infection. This is because the HIV virus remains dormant or hidden for 3 months after entering the body. So, if your partner had been exposed to HIV less than 3 months ago, then the test would not have picked it up and will still show a negative result.
But your overall risk seems to be very minimal. You needn't worry about the physical symptoms like rash, etc. These are all not definitive signs of HIV.
