default
Posted on Mon, 6 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,I am confused on the SERUM/CMIA test.I read various names in various discussions and am not sure if all are the same.Like HIV DUO/P24/Antigen etc.....I had an unprotected oral exposure with an unkown woman,I also did cunninglinus ,but no penetrative sex.Would not have lasted 5-7mins in total. Was very worried.Went for my first SERUM/CMIA test on 27th day, then again on 62nd day. Both results were non reactive(0.32 and 0.35 respectively).I need to know is this conclusive?I do not have any other symptoms, but am very worried. Please advice.

Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
The chance of transmission is very rare with oral sex.as there is no penetrative unprotected sex you are totally safe.
You have undergone fourth generation tests which tests both antibodies and P24 antigen at it is negative at two times. It has high sensitivity of 99.8%.
I would rate it as conclusive
we are made to repeat the tests just to allay the anxiety of patients.
So you can allay the fear of HIV
You can get back to me for any clarifications.
Thank you

Thank you Doctor. But can you tell me a little bit on the time frame etc.Lot of things I read say 3months/6months for conclusive. And in HIVDuo some place 6weeks.Also is SERUM/CMIA the same test as HIV Duo/P24 Antigen,Ag....
Can you comment on the 27th day and 62nd day period in which I took these tests? Can I go back to my normal life without ever worrying about this incident?Sorry, but anxiety is sometimes unreasonable and needs a lot of reassurances.Thank you for your understanding. If I need to get in touch with you in person, where do I meet you?

Brief Answer:
HIV negative.relax.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
P24 antigen can come positive as early as 3 weeks after exposure.so you have done twice at different periods after 3 weeks,it increases its sensitivity and so you can be sure of free from HIV.
Antibodies usually appear within 3 months after exposure .here antigen is not there NOR antibodies. We can conclude based on your exposure risk and antigen results.
Yes you can resume normal life.
I am temporarily out of XXXXXXX now.

Hello Doc,Yesterday i went for first time in person to consult a Dermatologist. He was a young doctor. After I gave him the background and my 2 test results,he told me fisrt to go for a retest in 12 weeks, but when I told him I have done it twice in 27days and 62nd day and It is very stressfull to wait more,he says you can leave the test and all is normal. And prescribed Zincovit to increase immunity. If all is Ok,then why this medicine?I am even more confused that why a retest was recommended?
