Brief Answer:
Please get one final 6 month HIV 1 and 2 antibodies test done at 6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Oral sex has a very low risk of HIV transmission. It is about 1 in 10000 cases with risk less than 0.01 percent.

2. However it is good that you have done test for HIV antibodies using western blot. Western blot or ELISA test should be done at 3 months and 6 months.

3. For peace of mind you can get ELISA test for HIV 1 and 2 antibodies done at 6 months. Doing the 6 months test for HIV 1 and 2 antibodies is final and the results are accurate. I am sure your result will be negative at 6 months also.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
HIV antibodies appear in 100 percent cases at 6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. There are many different tests to check for HIV. It is true that HIV antibodies appear in around 95 percent cases after 6 to 12 weeks. 1 to 5 percent patients can take 6 months for antibodies to appear.

2. Presently there is a HIV 1 and 2 antibodies and p24 antigen test which is a 4th generation rapid test. This test is supposed to be more than 95 percent accurate at 6 weeks.

3. For the older ELISA and western blot tests, they are 100 percent accurate after 6 months.

4. HIV antibodies usually develop in 3 months time but for complete confirmation, best to repeat HIV 1 and 2 antibodies test at 6 months if you are getting tested only for antibodies like the western blot or ELISA test.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Take rapid fourth generation HIV 1 and 2 and p24 antigen test

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. You can get latest fourth generation rapid test done right now. It will show even slightest HIV 1 infection because it tests for HIV and HIV 2 antibodies and also p24 antigen.

2. The p24 antigen is very sensitive for HIV 1 infection and if there is no p24 antigen in blood after 6 weeks then there is more than 99 percent accuracy.

3. HIV 2 is rare and please do not worry about it.

4. Please do not have any unprotected oral or vaginal sex with any individual other than your wife without using condoms.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
