What Are The Chances Of Hepatitis C Infection Through Needle Stick Injury?
Question: Hi this is XXXXXX here.
I sustained needlestick injury from Hep C source about 19 weeks ago. Hep C PCR for myself at 4, 7 and 11 weeks are negative. Hep C antibodies for myself at 7 and 15 weeks are negative as well. My ALT at baseline was 23 and then at 7 weeks went to 50 and later repeated at 15 weeks was 41 (reference range <45). Shall i still be concern of possibility of transmission. Is it still necessary to do check at 6mths post needlestick?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
The rrisk of being infected through needlestick injury is very low. More over, the fact that all the recent test results were very promising and you shouldn't worry to much about being infected.
However you should continue with all these analysis (liver enzymes and anti HCV) up to sixth months. If after sixth months everything is normal than you should forget this incident.
Hope this was of help!
