To recapitulate: Male / 21 - left Inguinal Hernia Surgery a week ago - numbness under incision - planned for right hernia next week - worried about complications as mentioned - had Appendix surgery a year ago - debating not getting the surgery.

You may please discuss about plain Herniotomy operation - this is because you are just 21 years old and the need of mesh may not be there, although this is solely decided by the Surgeon who examined you,
I hope plain Herniotomy operation gives least complications. And be done in a young man of your age with indirect type of hernia. Mesh may not be needed -no pain, no complications.

Bloating, pain and rumbling should be investigated well and corrected.
Go for Enterclysis barium studies, if there is obstruction you need a corrective surgery.

Get symptomatic relief first.

The pain in the testicle can be due to the neuropraxia, evident in any surgery as mentioned above. If the pain is not there now, that is great.

Numbness is expected to go away soon.

On and off constipation which is not happening recently may or may not be related to the bloating or rumbling, hence better to get investigated just to rule out any obstruction as you had appendix surgery in past. Of course, you can have dietary adjustments in such a way that you avoid foods and beverages that cause constipation, bloating and rumbling and can take a mild laxative if needed so.
Get investigated when you have symptoms to get a positive finding; never get investigated for intestines when you do not have symptoms as the chances of normal reporting is always there.
