What Are The Potential Causes Of Persistent Muscle Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I would like to know potential causes of persistent muscle pain (it feels like strained muscles) in my thighs, accompanied by a feeling of joint and muscle irritation around the sockets where my femurs mate with my hips. The pain levels vary somewhat, but have been present for at least 2 months. It seems to worsen with prolonged inactivity (lying in bed) and sometimes improves with activity-sometimes not. I have been experiencing some sciatic nerve pain, primarily in my right buttock and in the back of my right thigh. It is sometimes difficult to separate the 2 problems, but that doesn't seem to explain the same persistent muscle pain in my left leg. There is also a feeling of strain in my left shoulder which is not responding to rest or lack of use as I would expect.

Brief Answer:
Hip joint arthritis, slip disc

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Hip pain could be related to hip joint arthritis.

If there is back pain that radiates to the left leg then it could be slip disc.

It is best to get evaluated for the same. Get blood tests to check Serum Sodium, Serum, Calcium and Phosphorus, Serum Vitamin D levels to rule out any Electrolyte disturbance which can aggravate.

Take healthy balanced diet and 2 litres of water daily. Exercise daily. Get 6-8 hours of sleep daily.

If you have radiating back pain to the lower limbs, get an Xray of both hips and xray and MRI of lumbosacral spine as well. Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights. Take Tablet Levocarnitine 100mg once a day for a month to improve with muscle strength. Take Tablet Calcium and Vitamin D combination once a day for 2 months.

Apply hot packs to the painful regions. Get an Xray of your shoulder as well. Do not perform overhead activities of lift weights. Avoid squatting, cross leg sitting, climbing stairs, kneeling.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
