What Are The Repercussion Of Receiving Expired Japanese Encephalitis Injection?
My daughter is 9 months old. We took her to a government hospital for vaccination.
They gave her Vitamin A drops , JE injection and Measles injection.
After the vaccine is administered, we found that the JE vaccine is expired already (2 days ago or a month ago). I’ve attached the photos of the vaccine. Will there be a problem? What do you suggest us to do?
Thank you.
Expiry date appears to be 4 may 2017
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM. Can understand your concerns.
Expiry date on vaccine appears to be 4 may 2017, because expiry period is around 1 year 6 months.
If given after expiry date, the vaccine becomes ineffective, that means it will not prevent against the disease. Possible side effects include pain and tenderness at site of injection. Fever can also occur. In few cases, decreased appetite, increased sleep can also occur. Rash can also occur sometime.
If there are no symptoms till now then it is unlikely that child will get side effects. However, an examination by doctor should be done daily for 3 to 4 days to look for any possible side effects.
I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
Thank you for the reply.
It has been 3 days since the vaccination. There are no negative signs, the baby is looking good. Shall we ignore it. Or should we consult a doctor?
Watch for atleast 1 week
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again.
Symptoms can take up to 7 days to come. Watch for atleast 1 week from the date of vaccination.
An examination by doctor is necessary. It should be done every 3 to 4 days. If no symptoms in 1 week then we are fully assured.
Take care.
