What Are The Repercussions Of Accidentally Taking Vaginal Progesterone Orally?
Question: Hello Dr!
I am a 35 year old female from XXXXXXX undergoing IVF treatment for conceiving my second baby. I had my embryo transfer yesterday and have been given several medications, one of which is Naturogest VT 200 which is a vaginal progesterone suppository. But I made a horrible mistake and have taken the suppository orally just 30 minutes ago instead of vaginally. I am really worried. I hope this is not going to have serious side-effects to my health and to the health of the baby if my transfer is successful. Please help!!

Brief Answer:
No concern As of now.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam,
I understand your query and concern.
Generally Naturogest (micronized progesterone) is prescribed both in oral and vaginal routes, so need not worry.
Normally Peak plasma Progesterone concentrations will be attained quickly with oral route than vaginal administration, but peak values are sustained for a longer duration with vaginal administration(hence the drug will have extended the duration of action).
Hence, I advise you to take vaginally from next time.
As of now you need not worry for a single dose since the peak levels of the drug
attained will be more or less same with both the routes.
Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.
