Brief Answer:
protective reflex

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The coughing is a reflex action to try and clear any remnants from that are still present in your airways.

It would stop on its own, shouldn't be suppressed, it is a protective reflex.

There may be some discomfort from the chip, in some cases, this can last a few days to a week.

If it is very uncomfortable then the use of anti inflammatory pain killers would help.
This includes medications such as naproxen, ibuprofen or cataflam.
Cold foods/drinks as well as soft foods may be needed depending on the degree of discomfort

I hope this helps. feel free to ask any other questions
