What Are The Repercussions Of Taking Option 72?
Question: Hi my last period was on 13th Dec. Last n8 i had a unprotected sex, but my husband ejaculated outside. Are there still chances of getting pregnant in this case. If yes can i take option 72. I saw on internet that the option 72 delays the pregnancy for three years. Is it true. Also in 2 and half months i have taken emergency pills almost 7 times, so does this delay pregnancy when wanted.

Option 72 is an emergency post-coital contraceptive pill which contains Levonorgestrel and can avoid pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of the unprotected sex. It avoids pregnancy when taken after the sex. Any sex done after the consumption of the pills is not protected from pregnancy. There is some misunderstanding about the pill taken once giving protection for prolonged period; id does not do so.
When you are regularly involved in sexual activities, emergency contraceptive pills is not a right choice for you. Instead, you may opt for some reliable regular birth control method like oral birth control pills, intrauterine device or condom (male or female). For prolonged actions, you may opt for implants, depot injections or intrauterine medicated devices.

Precum does contain some sperms which are capable of causing a pregnancy. Hence, it is advisable and safer to cover this sexual incidence by post coital emergency contraceptive pills.
Since your last period was December 13, your fertile period falls from December 23 to December 31 (considering your cycle to be of 28 days). However, sexual activity in safe period also is not a fool proof method of contraception. Better go for emergency contraception pills.

sure sir. but what am afraid is that i had already taken 7 emergency pills in the last two and half months. I heard that taking too many emergency pills will cause some problems and delay prgnancy or completely stop women from getting pregnant. Is this true.

The other emergency contraceptive pills also have the same ingredient; there should not be any difference in the action of Option 72 than the others. It definitely does not contain a slow release depot preparation which would be released for period of 3 years. There is some misunderstanding about this issue.
Any emergency contraceptive pill has following after effects:
1. Few days after taking the pill, there is some amount of withdrawal bleeding for few days. It does not require any medical attention.
2. The periods following the pill would get delayed by few days to a week or so. If more number of pills are taken during one cycle, the delay in periods may be for more number of days.
Otherwise, permanent affection of fertility by these medicines is not reported. This contraceptive method is safe, reliable and reversible method. However, over usage of any medicine should be avoided, which is true to these pills also. Now to cover this unprotected sex, you may safely take any emergency post coital contraceptive pills. However, henceforth, for long term protection, opt for some other methods which I have suggested you in earlier communication.
