What Are The Side Effects Of Unwanted 72 Intake?
Question: Hi i had unprotected sex with my girl friend this month last saturday.And that time she was in periods.After that sunday night she took an un wanted 72.After that periods stopped and she got head ache , breast pain ,stomach ache .all that things happend.And today is wednesday now she was getting heavy bleeding.after periods stopped why she was getting bleeding.iam little worried can you please help him in this.

Thanks for the query to HCM,
Firstly as she had sex unprotected intercourse during her meses, tehre was no chances of pregnancy anyways and there was no need to take an unwanted 72 on sunday night.
This is a high dose progesterone pill which stopped the menses completely next day under progesterone effect and brought about symptoms of PMS which was again drug induced and then after 3 days she started with the withdrawal bleed again which led to shedding of remaining edometrium which was stopped from shedding by the pill. Hence the menses were heavy.
If she is not changing more than 3-4 sanitary pads daily then she is fine and the bleeding shall subside on its own as mentrual bleed. If the bleeding is more than that then she can take TAB TRANEXAMIC ACID 500mg thrice a day for next 3 days to reduce the bleeding.
THere is no real concern to panic. This was expected following unwanted 72 intake during menses.
Please wait for few days , menses shall subside on their own and yes pregnancy is ruled out completely.

She dont have any problem for next periods know.after taking that tablet she will be fine know.

Her next menses may be delayed by a week to 10 days which is afain a known side effect of the emergency contraception. Apart from this no other problems which she is likely to face.
just watch for excessive bleeding this time and if yes then tranexamic acid can be started as advised earlier.
