Question: Hello Dr. I'm about 20 years old. I'm 45 kg. I want to gain more weight so that I can look nice. I have been suggested to take Endura mass. Please tell me its side effect. Or do I need to take any mass gainer? Please suggest me best advice.

Our body is made of proteins. So, in order to gain weight, we basically want to gain muscle mass or protein mass. Endura mass is a so-called weight gain supplement. But 100g of it contains only 15g of proteins and 79g of carbohydrates. Please note that you are taking a fraction of this and a even lesser fraction gets absorbed from your digestive tract. You can easily calculate how much protein you are actually likely to gain from it. It is basically useless taking such supplements. The major side effect of Endura Mass would be gain of fat due to its high glycemic index carbohydrates. It can also cause problems like hormonal imbalance, fatty liver and loss of bone density if taken on long term basis. I would advise against any other 'mass gainers' as well.

All you need to take protein rich foods in bulk and back it up with proper exercise. Fish, meat and eggs contain proteins and need to be taken in bulk. Plant sources of protein include carrots, spinach, soya beans etc. which are also to be taken. Proper exercise is needed if you want to gain muscle mass.

I take bananas, milk and eggs. I also do exercise. I don't see any improvement. Please suggest me anything from which I could gain weight rapidly or I could see improvement in my body. By the way, The answer is very helpful. Thank you

Thanks for writing back.

I understand that you take bananas, milk and eggs. But you would also admit that the major bulk of your food constitutes of carbodydrates (cereals). These have to be REPLACED by bulk of protein containing food and only a small amount of carbohydrate. I would stress on intake of fish and meat and other proteins of ANIMAL source since they contain what we call 'first class proteins'. Imagining eating half a kg of boiled chicken for lunch. No carbohydrates. No fancy preparation. Moreover, the exercise should be specifically oriented by a physical trainer.

I hope you understand what I am saying. It is not easy to override the normal constitution of your body.
