What Are The Side Effects Of Using Reclast?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Nov 2015
Question: I am scheduled to have a Reclast infusion in a few weeks. I have been using retainers that fit over my teeth at night for a few years to maintain the position of my teeth, but my bite is a little off. I have read about possible jaw problems as side effect of Reclast. Does this sound like it could be a problem ?

Brief Answer:
Yes, reclast can cause problems related to jaw bone..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Reclast infusion contains Zoledronic Acid as the main ingredient and is seen to cause side effects over the jaw like Osteonecrosis of jaw bone and it can lead to pain in jaw, swelling , and loosening of teeth..

If the teeth becomes loose the alignment may get disturbed and retainers can no longer help..

Although it is not seen with the first infusion itself and is not always very severe in all patients undergoing infusions..

But you need to get certain precautions taken pre and post infusion like a proper oral checkup has to be done and treatment of any infection in teeth and gums should be done before the infusions as the pre-existing dental problems may get exaggerated after infusion..

Once infusion is done proper dental checkup every 3 to 6 months should be done to prevent dental damages..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician or your treating dentist and get evaluated and he can assess the present condition of your Oral structures by doing a clinical evaluation and guide you better..

Any further questions are welcome..
I will be happy to help..

Wishing you a good health..

Thanks and regards.
