What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of TIA?
Not having experienced the loss of eyesight in one eye for 1 to 2 minutes before we didn't call 911. When his eyesight came back, we thought something else happened to his eye. Is it too late to treat my husband with t-PA to help prevent mini-strokes or stroke?
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would explain that your husband seems to have gone through a TIA.
This is a temporary lack of blood perfusion in a certain region of the brain.
But, as he is OK now, it indicates that the blood perfusion has been established again.
So t-PA is not necessary in this situation.
Anyway I recommend consulting with his attending physician as soon as possible and perform some tests to investigate for the possible underlying causes:
- a Doppler ultrasound of the cervical arteries
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring for possible cardiac arrhythmia
- blood lipid profile
- fasting glucose
- kidney and liver function tests
- complete blood count.
Taking Aspirin 80-100mg daily would help prevent further episodes.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr.Iliri
