Question: Hi,
I am a 58 year old woman. I am 5'5" tall and weigh 177.6 lbs. I have been on Weight Watchers for five months and have lost 24.4 lbs. I have been working out 4 days a week on my elliptical for seven months. I also have a XXXXXXX stepper in my office that I use for 15 mins. twice a day, five days a week. I usually get in 8,000 to 11,000 steps a day. My resting heart rate is 48 to 55. My XXXXXXX rate, recorded, is 175. I feel fine but should I be concerned about the low hear rate. Sometimes it feels like my heart flutters when I am in bed.

Brief Answer:
Can be suggestive of pathological or physiological problem in heart function

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking the query,

As per your query, heart rate less then 60/minute is called bradycardia and more then 100/minute is called tachycardia. Both of them can be indicative of any pathological or physiological problem with the heart.

I'd suggest you some baseline tests of cardiology like--

2D- Echocardiography -To see the functions of the heart.

24 hour holter monitor - To record the nature of the heart beats during episodes of flutters. To record runs of tachy and bradycardia.

Apart from that T3, T4 and TSH should be done to rule out the cause of palpitations.

Yes, you should be concerned and should follow up with the reports of the above mentioned investigations.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.

Just to be clear, my XXXXXXX heart rate of 175 is achieved while exercising, not resting.

Thank you for your reply. I will schedule a visit with my doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Have noted your details.

Still 48/minutes is bradycardia and should not be neglected.
To be on safe side recommended tests should be done.

Good luck and follow up with reports.
Thanks.
