What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Lung Cancer?
I had little blood ( red thin line) in my clear sputum after cough once 10 days back. After that I forced coughed INTENTIONALLY to know the more blood is coming or not.
No blood came after repeated violent INTENTIONAL coughing for few days. I have no other symptoms but acidity. What I want to know is
1) In lung cancer what is the characteristics of haemoptysis?
Is it persistent, occasional or increases as the the time passes?
I have occasional cough not persistent at all. I have sometimes GERD.
No need to worry much for lung cancer.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Blood in sputum is known as hemoptysis.
And lung cancer is common cause for this.
But this is true for old age people (age more than 50 years).
At your age of 30 years, possibility of lung cancer is very less.
In lung cancer, hemoptysis is continuous and for longer time. It also increases with time in lung cancer.
It does not cause massive hemoptysis. But it causes small amount of hemoptysis. It causes blood spots in the white or yellow mucus.
So in you case, better to get done chest x ray first.
Possibility of lung cancer is very less.
Quit smoking if you are smoker.

When I coughed up little blood, immediately I coughed several times INTENTIONALLY for 2-3 days to know more blood is coming or not. But nothing came.
1) Is it characteristics of lung cancer?
2) How many maximum years a lung cancer take to be symptomatic ?
No, this is not characteristic of lung cancer.

Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
The way you are describing your blood in sputum is not commonly seen in lung cancer.
Lung cancer starts as malignant lung nodule.
Initially size is small.
Than with the growth, size increases along with symptoms.
Usually symptoms occur once tumour reach the size of 4-5 cm.
Different lung cancers have different growing rates. So exact time can not be determined.
But usually it takes 1-2 years to develop symptoms like coughing, hemoptysis, breathlessness etc.
First get done chest x ray.
Why you are so much worried about lung cancer?
Are you smoker?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.

I have never smoked in my life.
I heard different things from different people, which scared me. That is why I want to be clear about this by asking an expert opinion.
I have GERD and occasional cough which comes and goes.
I have occasional chest pain which comes and goes for last 2 years( no elevated symptoms). Sometimes sore throat is there and no breathlessness with activity like running and climbing stairs. I am under weight.
I s weight loss to mean loosing weight constantly or weight loss up to certain period then weight gains or after loosing weight it remains constant there?
Weight loss is constantly loosing your weight.

Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Weight loss is constantly loosing your weight without gaining weight at any point of time.
Rough definition of significant weight loss is weight loss of atleast 6 kgs in 2 months time.
So if you are having significant weight loss then better to get done chest x ray because you are having hemoptysis. And hemoptysis, weight loss are seen in other conditions like bronchitis and tuberculosis.
