What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Shoulder Bursitis?
Question: I'm a 61 year old female. In decent shape but I want and need to loose 10-15 pounds and get more exercise. I've had issues in the past with my right shoulder due to an injury but at this time my left shoulder and upper arm are in a lot of pain. The pain is the worse on the outer side of my shoulder and top of my arm and under my arm. It Hurts when I sleep, exercise or do nothing at all. I never hurt by left shoulder so concerned what is causing the pain. NSAIDS, such as Alieve relieve a little of the pain but not much. It is impacting me in trying to exercise more.

As per the symptoms, it could be bursitis of the shoulder an inflammation of the bursa ( part of shoulder joint).
I would recommend that, before You start the therapy with the nurse, have a complete examination by your local doctor (physical examination of your shoulder and if it necessary an X-ray to rule out Osteoarthritis),to confirm the diagnosis and you will talk about the treatment and he/she will recommend a proper muscle training for You.
Meanwhile:
You need to rest your shoulder, try to avoid the movement that make the pain worse , keep using Ibuprofen (400 mg every 8hours for next 2-3 days), warm compresses, use topical painkillers (Diclofenac cream) also.
