Brief Answer:
If small, may be no symptoms. For large cyst description below

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns.

If the ovarian cyst is small you may not have any symptoms. It is accidentally detected during ultrasound examination.

If the cyst is large
1. Can cause fullness and bloating of lower abdomen. It may be associated with feeling of heaviness in pelvis or dull ache.
2. Can cause pain during intercourse
3. If it is pressing on bladder it can cause frequency of urination or difficulty in passing urine.
3. If it presses on bowel it can cause painful bowel movements.
4. If it is very large, by pressing on intestines and stomach it can cause loss of appetite, vomiting etc

Rarely some ovarian cysts secrete hormones causing, early menarche/ abnormal vaginal bleeding/ ( estrogen and progesterone) or excessive growth of body hair/ deepening of voice ( Testosterone) etc.

If the cyst gets twisted then blood supply to it is hampered. In this case there is sudden severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and symptoms of shock like fainting, cold skin, light headedness etc. This is an emergency and requires going to the ER urgently.
I hope I have answered your question. If you have any further concerns do write to me. I will be happy to answer.

I've missed my period for three days now. I took a urine pregnancy test which turned out negative and i had a serum test done too which was also negative. Could i be pregnant? I took the urine test a day after missing my period and the serum test the day after? What could be the cause of my missed period?

Brief Answer:
unlikely to be pregnant

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Serum pregnancy test is a very sensitive test. If it is negative it is unlikely that you are pregnant. Rarely ovulation can be delayed. So repeat serum pregnancy test after one week. If it is negative then consult your doctor and take progesterone to start your period.

An occasional delayed period is normal.
It can also be due to
1. Major change in body weight. If you put on too much of weight or if you were BMI reduces to below 19.
2. Excessive exercise
3. Emotional stress -change of place/ job can be stressful
4. Polycystic ovary disease
4. Sometimes thyroid disease, celiac disease etc can be the cause.

In your case I don't think there is any major problem as this is the first time you have had it. Stop getting stressed. This worry itself can delay periods.
I hope I have answered your concerns. If you have any further concerns, do contact me through Healthcare Magic.
