Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I was shooting earlier in my back yard and put my gun in the wrong spot and when I was looking threw the scope it gave a hard kickback on my forehead and it hurt very bad and gave me a deep gash on my forehead which started bleeding. I put a bandage and neosporin on it. Can this be very bad to where it could have fractured my forehead? I can send pics.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be local injury

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
It seems that you have developed local injury due to the hit. However, we need to rule out any Sub Dural Hematoma (SDH), that is very common after a hit.
For the confirmation of SDH, CT head is required.
However, we don't perform CT head routinely in case of head hit.
Indications are:
1. Any loss of consciousness even transient following the hit.
2. Any bleeding for ear, nose.
3. Any urinary or fecal incontinence following the hit.
4. Any seizure following the hit.
5. Any severe headache.
So, in case you had any of these indications, get a CT Head done to rule out SDH.
Otherwise, you can simply go to the doctor and get a sterilized dressing done over the cut. He would also access if any stitches are required over the wound.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

I have had none of the above, besides sinus pressure. Is the forhead pretty strong?

Brief Answer:
Yes, that's strong

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have seen the attached photograph also. It seems to be cut, that is superficial. So, it is very unlikely that you had got any fracture or SDH.
Post Concussion headache is very common. You can take any NSAIDs like Ibuprofen for the purpose.
I would also advice you to see your doctor, who would examine you clinically to rule out any evidence of fracture , which if he feels, will get your CT done.
Good Luck.
