Here is a checklist of things that need to be done for your wife at this point -
1. Blood tests - CBC, Urine routine microscopy, TSH, HIV, HBsAg, HCV, OGTT, HBA2 assay.
2. Weight, blood pressure and clinical exam every 3 weeks.
3. Early pregnancy scan between 6 - 8 weeks of pregnancy.
4. Double marker test ( USG plus blood tests ) around 12 - 14 weeks of pregnancy.
5. Quadruple marker test at 16 - 18 weeks of pregnancy
6. TIFFA - Specialized ultrasound scan for detecting foetal anomalies at 20 - 22 weeks of pregnancy.
7. Once baseline blood tests are done, then repeat CBC, Blood sugar and urine routine test plus TSH every 6 weeks.
8. Third trimester ultrasound scan and Doppler test after 28 weeks of pregnancy.
In addition, if any complication or risk factor is detected, further tests maybe required.
She should be taking daily iron, calcium, vitamin D and protein powder supplements after the 3rd month of pregnancy, right until she is breastfeeding.
2 injections of Tetanus toxoid - after 3 months of pregnancy are completed, 4 weeks apart.
