What Casues Diarrhea In An Infant?
Question: My 11 months baby is facing loose motions and frequent normal motions since last 14 days. His gums are tight but no teeth has come out yet. He drinks water, pedialyte or eats something like cerelac and immediately passes either loose tools or mucus or binded stool with banana. He feels very thirsty and his lips are also dry and as soon as he drinks or eats he passes stool. Yesterday he passed 15 motion which were of mixed nature in texture. Some were binded, some with watery motion. He hits his head and bites me and his hands often. Kindly suggest.

Its quite common to see this during teething. Babies usually develop hyper active gastrocolic reflux: They pass stools after every feeds.Distension of stomach associated with feeds causes bowel movements.
If the following criteria are fullfilled there is no cause for concern
1. Absence of blood in stools
2. Feeds well
3. Sleeps well after feeds
4. Urine output is adequate( 3-4 Diaper change a day)
5. No redness in anal region
Babies tend to bite things while they are teething: Nothing to be worried about.
I would suggest the following
1. Giving him curds in the form of curd rice will be helpful
2. Probiotic: Darolac will be helpful. You can give him syrup 4 ml twice a day

The anal region becomes red and I apply Lobate cream for skin normalization of anal region. He takes comparatively less intake than before. Before loose motion he use to use 2 diapers overnight and 4-5 diapers during the day.
