What Casues Fatigue And Dizziness When Suffering From Hypothyroidism?

Since last Friday I had the same feeling of tiredness coupled with pressure at the back of the head. I also feel a little nausea. This time this has lasted the whole week. Can you please advise. Thanks in anticipation.I missed to mention that I feel dizziness on getting up from bed or sudden movements of the head. Some times Black outs for a second.
There are many possible causes.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
If I were your treating doctor and you had come to my clinic with these symptoms(tiredness, fatigue, low blood pressure, dizziness) I would first try to exclude the most common causes and the more serious ones:
-Heart conditions.
There are many heart conditions that can cause a decrease in the blood flow leading to low blood pressure, dizziness, black outs, tiredness and fatigue.
Physical examination of heart it is very important because the doctor may hear a heart murmur or other abnormal noises when listening with a stethoscope.
You should do a cardiac work-up (ECG,Stress test, Heart ultrasound )
-Hypothyroidism.Since you are already diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and are being treated for this I would ordered to run some tests to evaluate your thyroid function.
FT3,FT4,TSH are needed to see if the dose of Thyroxine you are taking is sufficient.
A low dose of Thyroxine is a possible cause for your symptoms.
-Anemia is another possible cause.
Physical examination is important because it might be indicative for anemia and it is confirmed by blood test.Complete blood count ( low RBC and low Hemoglobin indicate anemia)
-Dehydration. If you don't drink enough fluids during the day,you might become dehydrated and your blood pressure would be low.
You should drink up to 12 glasses of fluids in a day.
-The dizziness when you get up from the bed or on sudden movements of the head might be related to an inner ear problem or a problem with your cervical colon.
I suggest to consult your treating doctor and discuss with him the above options.
Hope my answer has helped.
If you have any further question, please feel free to write me,I will be happy to help.
Take care

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
My main concern is the feeling of pressure at the back of my head. One thing about this pressure at the back of my head is that it is more pronounced in the morning hours. It is lesser as the day progresses As l am not worried about the other issues like low BP, dizziness, fatigue etc.
I will go to the Doctor with all the options mentioned above.
However I have recently moved to CA from XXXXXXX and my registration process with Kaizer Permanente is under process. Hence I cannot go to my selected physician immediately. This is the main reason I went online to find answers to my problem and to the understand the severity.
Please advice about the pressure at the back of the head.
Thanks & Regards,
XXXX
Please answer the questions below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
Since your main concern is the pressure at the back of the head,I need to ask you some questions to understand better the significance of it:
-How long have you been having this concern?
-It is same every day or over time it is getting worse?
-Is it relieved by taking analgesic (Ibuprofen)?
-Do you have problems with your eyes?Do you wear glasses?
You should know that headaches and the feeling of pressure at the back of the head is common symptoms in the conditions I listed above.
I am asking these question just to be sure nothing else is going on.
Waiting for your answers.
Regards
Dr.Rovena Murati

Sorry for not replying immediately. I myself was not sure of answers to your queries. hence the delay
-How long have you been having this concern?
Only the last 7-8 days and hence I am not very clear about the symptoms.
-It is same every day or over time it is getting worse? -Is it relieved by taking analgesic (Ibuprofen)?
The discomfort is same but the duration it lasts has increased. For instance the first few days I had the pain say around 10 am and reduced as the day progressed with no pain in the evening.
On 21st Sat pain from 11am to 3pm. Took IBUPROFEN at 12 noon. Normal head aches I get pain relief in 30 to 45 minutes.
On 22nd pain from 2pm to 5pm Took IBUPROFEN at 2.45pm. It kind of reduced at 5pm but again started by 5.45/6 pm. Pain persisted till 10pm.
Today, I am writing this mail at 11.30 and the pain started at 9am. Hope this makes sense. :-) I have tried to time the pain and medication to give you better picture.
-Do you have problems with your eyes?Do you wear glasses?
I do wear glasses But recently had my eyes checked and no problems with my eyes.
Should I wait for some more days to see if it goes away or so I understand the symptoms better?
Look forward to your reply,
Thanks & Regards,

It doesn't seem to be something urgent and serious
Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear!
Thank you for answering my queries, you gave me useful information.
This kind of headache might due to the causes I mention in the first response and it is related with the other symptoms you described (fatigue, tiredness, dizziness).
It doesn't seem to be nothing serious or life threatening that would require immediate medical attention.
You should consult a physician and get examined in order to find the cause of all your symptoms.
You need :
-Cardiac evaluation
-Thyroid function tests (FT3,FT4,TSH).
-Complete blood count to exclude anemia.
Once excluded these possibilities ,your doctor may consider other possible causes of your symptoms including the headache and the pressure in the back of the head.
Possible other causes are :
-Stress and anxiety
-Migraine
-Tension headache
The situation is not so urgent so you can wait some more days and if your symptoms persist then consult a doctor and get examined.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Wish you good luck with your investigations.
Regards!
Dr.Rovena
