What Caues Swelling Under Lingual Frenulum?
Question: Last night I had swelling under lingual frenulum about the size of a nickel with white edges on one side. I rinsed with saltwater several times and today it is much smaller and red. It seems to straddle the frenulum
at near the floor of my mouth. What should I do? It looks just like a second tongue. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. It will be helpful if you can upload a close-up image.
2. Your description seems to be indication a mucocele or 'ranula' arising from the sub-lingual salivary glands. Get a direct examination done. This will help rule out rarer causes such as a sub-mandibular duct stone, leukoplakia and so on.
3. Get a Neck USG (Ultrasound) to check the depth of this lesion.
4. Since it appears inflamed, request your physician to start with Clindamycin which attains high levels in saliva.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
