Hi, a few days ago I have noticed that a part under my tongue (sublingual papillae?) became slightly bigger (3x5mm bigger than usually). I can feel it with my tongue when I flip the tongue and of course see it. It is located under my tongue, just next to lingual frenulum (?) and just where lingual frenulum begins (where the widest part of lingual frenulum is).The swollen part is normal pink colour like the rest of under tongue area and it is sort of see through, but not exactly. It does not hurt and is not hard. Do I have a reason to be concerned? Thanks
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that you have a lump under the tongue that is painless and link in colour and as it is see through it seems that it is transparent and the most probable cause of it is formation of a mucous cyst known as Mucocele which is formed due to ruptured duct of the minor salivary gland leading to spillage of mucous into the soft tissues leading to formation of a bump.. You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis.. Many a times mucocele resolve on its own and do not require any treatment and you can do concentrated salt water gargles.. In case if it still does not resolve in a month time surgical removal has to be done..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora.
