Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: yesterday when I bent over to put my socks on, I felt like my lower intestines were being strangled and when I tried to stand up, I nearly fainted... and I kept rubbing that area because it felt like they were trapped... eventually it came untangled and I was slowly able to stand up. I felt weak and was shaking.

Brief Answer:
Acute muscle spasm

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Noted that you have coughing spells that totally tire you out and feel like the chest and lower abdomen is going to explode for the last 4 years.
Noted the incidence of yesterday - on bending over, feeling of lower intestines being strangled, fainting, kept rubbing and eventually came untangled to be able o stand up.

The most probable cause is the acute spasm of the abdominal muscles which can give the excruciating pain that you had hence making you faint when you tried to stand up and the rubbing soothed the muscles.

Rare possibility is having an actual hernia and the things that followed as you explained, but in such a case you can always feel the gurgle of the intestine.
Actual tangling of the intestines the way felt is not heard of to occur or to get released the way you had experienced.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for the further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
