Question: I am a retired cardiologist. My sister XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Roethele asked me to help her. She was a Mayo Clinic patient first seen in 2001. Her clinic number is 4-456-647. She was seen for malignant melanoma, 7mm thick, operated at Mayo in XXXXXXX Sentinel node biopsy negative then She has been cancer-free re: melanoma. She now has a large thyroid nodule. The local ultrasound is suggestive of tumor. I know melanoma can show up years later in other organs including thyroid. Unlikely to be melanoma recurrence
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Melanoma in 2001 is extremely unlikely to recur now. This tumor is most likely a new thyroid tumor. We need to FNAC the nodule and then proceed accordingly.
There is a good team of head and neck surgeons at Indiana university school of health at XXXXXXX You can refer her to them.
Hope this helps.
