What Causes A Lump On The Right Jaw?

To check for lymph node enlargement due to infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Based on your symptoms I would like to rule out lymph node enlargement due to infection and mumps
Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
# do you have a fever?
# any redness or itching over the area?
# does it hurt even at rest or only when you chew, yawn or touch it?
# do you have any tooth infection or decay?
# any upper respiratory tract infection? (sinusitis, throat infection or a cold? Any ear infection?
# do you any bite marks anywhere near the area of the swelling or on neck/shoulder?
# any other bumps behind ear or in the neck?
# does the pain radiate anywhere else like to your ear or head?
# any injury to the area?
I recommend :
-a physician consult. Dentist consult if any gum/tooth disease is suspected
-blood tests (complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate)
-further tests based on clinical findings.
-apply ice compresses to help reduce pain
-tylenol /acetaminophen can help with pain.
Please see your doctor as soon as possible to check it out. If possible, send pictures. It may help to understand the problem better.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up and clarifications.
# is the bump on your neck on the second side as the one near your ear?
Please do consider my earlier recommendations. As there is no way I can examine you, I suggest you see your doctor as soon as you can.
The lumps do indicate lymph node enlargement.
Possibly due to an underlying infection.
The face doesn't have much space to accumulate a swelling so it tends to hurt.
-Gargle with warm saline thrice a day.
-take a vitamin C supplement (500mg),one a day.
-tylenol and cold compresses for the pain.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with
Wish you good health and hope you feel better soon.
Regards,
Dr Shuba Hariprasad
