What Causes A Rough Patch On The Cheek?
Question: Dear Doctor, I have a rough patch on the right side of my cheek. It is there for more than a month. I smoke, chew tobacco and also use nicotine chewing gum.
My dentists says, it could be because of rough molar in that place. Please advise

Brief Answer:
If rough molar is there then it can be due to that.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
have gone through your query. The patch can be most likely due to rough molar if it is present. Correction of this will be helpful to clear this. After correction of the tooth which gives irritation to the cheek this will gradually disappear. 4 to 6 weeks is usually needed for this. You can apply methyl uracil ointment locally after using a mouth wash. Avoid chewing tobacco, or nicotine gums and smoking. Using chewable vitamin C tablet daily is also good.
If there is no improvement after 8 weeks then you can go for biopsy of the area.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

thanks for your reply. please tell, what are all the precancerous sysmptoms and how it looks. Yesderaday again I went to the clinic and he was telling me the same thing. There is a slight discoloration, but nothing to worry. Cancer cells will have a growth i that area and they have a defined border.
Brief Answer:
Then nothing to worry.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow up.
It is usual to get this when your cheek is getting continuous trauma from toot. By correcting this this will get cleared gradually. I have seen such cases. And after correcting the tooth which is causing injury it can take up to 3 months for complete normalization of this.
If it is precancerous it will have irregular borders and there will be hardening of the underlying area usually. But for some it is difficult to identify without a biopsy. When a injury causing tooth is present nearby it is most likely causing from that only. So the thing you have to do is correct the tooth which is causing injury and give some time. If this is not disappearing after this then you should get a biopsy.
