What Causes A Small Blister Like Bump On The Right Outer Side Of Vagina?

Posted on Fri, 15 May 2015
Question: Doctor,

I have had a small blister like bump on the right outer side of my vagina. I had sex then 20 days later had a blood test for herpes and syphilis. It came back negative. But I still have this blister like bump that seemed to go away . But I scratched down there and it came back. I put some antifungal (monistat ) on it and it seems to have gone down substantialy in 2 days. Do you think I possibly didn't wait long enough to get an accurate test result? Or maybe it is something else? So worried

Brief Answer:
atypical blister, possibly molluscum variant.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
As mentioned that the bump over right labia , tested negative for herpes and syphilis which faded on its own and then reappeared on scratching and then setting down with anti fungal is atypical of any common std infections.
if it has responded to anti fungals then it is likely to be of a fungal origin , however the best diagnosis can be made only with a swab smear culture and immunohistochemistry which can identify the cause confirmatively.
It may be a molluscum, fungal or just a folliculitis.
If possible, it would be appreciated if you can attach a photograph of the lesion to allow us to evaluate and guide you better.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
No the test was taken fine after 20 days and beyond their incubation periods and hence as the tests are negative, you don't have herpes or syphilis.
