What Causes A Small, Painful Lump Near Hip?
Question: A few days ago I woke up and had a small lump near my hip, it was painful and had a little white head on top of the bump, a few hours later it swelled up twice its size and became more painful, a few hours after that a second bump appeared next to the original bump and began to swell as well. The next day another smaller bump appear near my ribs on the same side as the first two bumps, but it didn't swell like the others, but it could be unrelated I'm not sure. The bumps maybe boils Im not sure
Brief Answer:
Boils/ furuncles; oral and topical antibacterial
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.
I have taken note of your query and i have also reviewed the images.
Images do seem to suggest that these are boils i.e bacterial infection of skin & soft tissue.
If i was your treating doctor i would suggest you a course of an oral antibiotic for a week.
My choice would be either flucloxacillin Or cephalexin for a week.
Topically you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% Mupirocin ointment, twice daily for a week.
Regards
