What Causes A White Sore On The Frenulum?

Question: My eight year old daughter has a white sore on her frenulum. She does not have any other white spots in her mouth and she does not have a fever. She says it hurts...like burning type of pain.
Brief Answer:
Gurgle with lukewarm or saline water. Use chlorhexidine mouth wash.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I have checked the attached image and it seems to be due to Wharton's duct inflammation. In such a case antiseptic mouthwashes using Chrorhexidine mouth wash a couple of times a day usually helps. Salt water rinsing may also help. Anti-inflammatory tablets like Ibuprofen can help reduce the inflammation and pain.
Let me know if I could help further.

Two questions:
1. When does the pain go away?
2. What type of over the counter mouthwashes have chorohexidine?
Also, I see no stones which accompany inflammation of the Wharton's duct. I also read that is uncommon in children. Are you sure that it what this is?

Questions answered one by one
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Let me try to answer your queries one by one:
* The white lesion involves inflammatory changes of some salivary duct, possibly Wharton's duct. It can be brought in control by the use of mouth wash or saline rinse/gurgle.
* In adults similar presentation can occur due to an entirely different scenario. It is not relevant here.
* It may take some time to go away. Hopefully it will go in a week or so. Use of pain medication might be required.
* Chlorhexidine mouth wash is available over the counter. You can ask for it directly.
Regards
