What Causes Abdominal Bloating In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Nov 2017
Question: I am a 63 year old female who has problems urinating and defecating. This started about 2 weeks ago. I have to push very hard to do both. My lower pelvic area is a little tender and I have abdominal pain during urination and defecation. I feel like I have to push like I did when I was delivering children. I had a total hysterectomy in 1982.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to constipation .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted the problem of difficulty in passing urine and defecating that you are facing could be mostly due to constipation resulting into forming a hard fecal matter .

Since both the sphincters (Anal and Urethral )have same nerve innervation the hard stool cause irritation of anal sphincter causing difficulty in defecating. The difficulty in passing urine is due to referred irritation of urethral sphincter .

1)Take stool softener like Isafgol granules at bed time
2)Take leafy vegetables in your diet .
3) Drink more water
4) Avoid junk foods and non vegetarian diet .

This should help to resolve the issue.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
