Posted on Tue, 9 Dec 2014
Question: I am hypothyroid on levothyroxine. I recently discovered I have numerous kidney stones, one at present sitting in the bladder. I have been having chest pressure when bending or leaning forward, with slight SOB. I have intermittent aching in the sides of my neck vicinity near carotids. Intermittent elevated diastolic pressure 100 and above systolic borderline. A feeling of abdominal bloating and fullness that comes and goes.

Brief Answer:
No query asked. Medical conditions explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

Welcome to HCM.
You have stated your clinical conditions and I understand them.
You have not asked a query.
The diffuse disc degeneration is mainly affecting the cervical regions and lumbar regions. Cervical spondylosis with disc degeneration is the cause of your neck pain. It is probably affecting your thoracic region also. In such a situation, bending forward puts pressure on the nerves and can present as a chest pressure, discomfort or pain.
A feeling of abdominal fullness and bloating is due to an irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Your labile blood pressure requires to be followed up. Both can be related to your emotional health and stress.
You are welcome to ask me any query, you may have.
Wish you good health

Sorry about my Question not showing up. I was concerned about a possible loss of cardiac output. I have developed a bunch of stones in both kidneys since developing the thyroid issue. My diastolic BP went up to 114 while being seen for abdominal pain that ended up a moving kidney stone. Which at present is hanging out in my bladder. I had noticed the unusual sensation of chest pressure and almost SOB after leaning forward or squatting and leaning forward while doing some gardening. I have also had aching and pain along the sides of my neck in the area around the carotid arteries. I was to follow up with urology in a number of weeks. Should these chest symptoms be investigated? Should I be on medication for diastolic issues? I have hyperlipidemia from thyroid, and can't take statins. Haven't been to my regular GP since recent kidney stone event. If I have circulatory issues from thyroid is it a major issue, or what should I look for in symptoms etc. I really don't like having to see Doctors it is hard for me to get around and takes a lot of time, wears me out. I consider it stressful. thank you.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment if diastolic above 90 mm consistently

Detailed Answer:
If your diastolic blood pressure is above 90 mm most of the time, it should be treated. It would be advisable to have an EKG and an echocardiogram to assess your heart as you have several conditions that can affect it. Please let me know what issues you had with statin and which one.
The SOB was because of decreased venous return to the heart in the squatting posture and a transient elevation in blood pressure.
If your dose of levothyroxine is correct, then there is no increase in circulatory issues from the same.
Eat a healthy wholesome DASH diet, lose weight if you are overweight, exercise 30minutes per day and learn relaxation techniques/ yoga . These would help you tackle the issues better.
