What Causes Abdominal Pain, Bloating, Nausea And Loss Of Appetite?
Question: I am a female age 41 and since coming back from honeymoon (Italy) 9mths ago i am experiencing the following symptoms, abdonimal pain, bloating, painful spasms, trapped wind, knotting cramps, nausea, loss of appetite and yellow stool colour. I have been to my doctor and she has done a blood test for bacterial bug on me and the results came clear as .

Hi Dr. Klarida,
The abdominal pain started while I was in honeymoon in Italy in May 2015. I thought it was from the green salads that I was eating while there. I also thought that it might be from the contraception pill Yasminelle that I had been taking on a empty stomach, I have stop taking the pill since the 08 October 2015.
When I came back home the stool colour change and other symptoms that I explained in my first discussion occured.
I dont know but it could have to do with something different totally all together, beside the salads and yasminelle. I am so worried that it could be serious. Also about an hour later after every time i would eat, I would need to use the bathroom for bowel movement, this happens 4 times in a day.
I have read the serious side effects regarding Yasminelle pill I was taking and it can effect the pancreas, gallbladder and the Bilirubin and the digestion of fat in the body (Yellow Stool Colour). It also causes abdominal pain, nausea and gastroenteritis and severe migrane which i suffered while on it. The migranes has stopped since coming off the pill. While i was taking the pill for 5 years i also would drink yakult light to keep the good bacteria in the digestion system.
Also, my husband works part-time on his home farm and to be fair he can be careless with his hygiene regarding the farm. I am always after him. Could it be something that I have picked up from washing his farm clothes and my doctor was unable to detect it in the blood test?
Flagyl worked for a while but hasn't taken it away. My doctor has referred me for further tests. I am going endoscopy, colonoscopy and an organ x-ray on March 09, 2016.
I am really worn out from this since May 2015 with the nausea, lack of appetite, lack of energy and fatigue.
Please can you shed some light.

Here are my thoughts:
-- If Yasminelle has been taken according to the dose and not more then it should not give remaining side effects after you have stopped it. Every medicine has its own side effects, but if taken at the right dose they are safe to use.
--A diet with salads do not give those symptoms unless you have take a parasite that causes chronic diarrhea. In Italy, and more in the south of it there is a parasite called Giardia Lambia that can be taken from water. Ask your doctor to test the parasites in the stool, or maybe you have done, because the treatment of it is Flagyl, so most probably thats why you feel better after using it. You may need to repeat it though, and also consider other parasites.
-- If after ruling out the possibility of having any parasite, you still have those symptoms, I would for sure recommend to do colonoscopy and endoscopy as next step, to rule out chronic problems of all the bowel and stomach. Together with it you may need a CBC (to check for anemia or blood infections), and Liver functions tests and pancreas ultrasound (to rule out why your stool has changed color).
-- Your doctor may do also a general physical exam because he may have an orientation from it on other labs you may need.
