What Causes Abdominal Pain, Painful Bowel Movements And Excessive Gas?

Question: Hi
I have my period pretty regularly about every 28 days. I am 38 never had kids. I am not sexually active and haven't been for about 8 yrs.
This problem happens rarely but have noticed this is three times in a year so far. About a week before my period around day 20, I have a lot of tenderness and abdominal pain. Gas or bowel movements are very painful. This weekend it started Saturday morn, and I've been treating it with a heating pad and Goodys powder about twice a day. The powder is the only relief and the heat helps too.
It's been day 2.5-3 and I've woken myself up at 4am with the pain this morn. Thought it woul have diminished. I have had an ovarian cycst before ( I think) in my 20s. More painful than this. This is just a lot of tenderness and also some body aches too. I can walk and go about life but it's not easy.

I had gone on a vegetarian diet last yr and I experienced a similar problem a week before. But worse. Started meat again in January and it's happened again. Wonder if my hormones are balencing out? Thanks for your help!

Brief Answer:
Most likely hormonal changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
It is most likely due to hormonal changes caused by diet changes or due to cyst.
In my opinion repeat ultrasound is advised to rule out the cause.
Are you having any type of vaginal discharge or any other associated symptoms?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Good luck.

No discharges or spotting. I had noticed when vegetarian my ovulation days started around day 9-10 - is that early? Now eating meat i think its day 11. I wonder why the pain- could it be inflammation of my tubes? I havent been drinking enough water so i wonder if thats it. What is happening in anwomans body a week before her period?

Brief Answer:
Ovulation may very.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Sorry for such a long delay in my response.
Ovulation may vary from one cycle to other usually occur 14 days before your next period in 28 days cycle. (diet also cause hormonal changes).
In your case this variations considered normal.
Pain could be due to pelvic infection or it could be due to hormonal change.
As you are not having any other symptoms of vaginal infection like discharge etc.most likely it is not due to vaginal infection.
Hope found useful.
Again sorry for the delay in my response.
Good luck.
Regards

The pain became worse and so I went to the ER. They did a ct scan and found I had two ovarian cysts; one on each ovary. One had ruptured by the time the scan happened (which I think was earlier that night b/c the pain got so bad I had to do something - I think it was the rupture, b/c it only lasted about 3 min. and then subsided. never was that bad before or after). The next day the remaining cyst popped. It was 2 inches and so that was much more painful. Now I am on the mend and I think the pain has left by about 80%. hurts the most when I need to pass gas or use the bathroom.

Question - why would I have one cyst on each ovary? Would that mean I had two eggs that month?

Brief Answer:
Not necessarily.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I feel so bad about your suffering and pray for you to get well soon.
It is not necessarily that you are having two cyst and two eggs in each ovaries because sometimes ovaries does not released egg and sometimes it has.
So maybe two eggs released on that cycle but functional ovarian cyst may occur due to hormonal changes also.
And ovarian cyst could be due to hormonal changes also like in PCOD patient.
Hope found useful.
Good luck.
