What Causes Abdominal Pain Post Cesarean Delivery?

Question: I had a cesarean delivery 3 months back. but till yet I am feeling pain and swelling in my abdomen. I had done a mri scan which revealed edema in stomach. which has not been checked
Brief Answer:
Need more information
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic. I understand your concern.
In my opinion, if MRI showing edema in stomach it might be inflammation in stomach which might be due to gastritis.
For better explanation please upload the MRI report. If not able to upload, you can type the report and send me.
Also I need information like:-
1) Is this the first cesarean surgery?
2) Any strenuous work post surgery?
3) Any vaginal discharge?
4) Any fever?
5) Any gastritis symptoms like heart burn or any relation of pain with food?
Kindly provide me the information for further discussion.
Looking forward to hear from you.

Brief Answer:
It means there is inflammation over scar.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, I got your information. I understand your concern. I saw your report.
In my opinion, the edema over the scar means there is mild inflammation over the scar. Improper rest post surgery and on and off fever might have resulted in delayed healing and inflammation.
Excess strain on sutures due to improper rest and tension on sutures due to excess straining at constipation might also be the reason for this.
This inflammation and constipation causes pain and bloating.
I would suggest you to prevent constipation by taking adequate fluids upto 3 litres, high fibre diet and laxatives. Also take high protein diet to improve healing. Take tab.Lyser-D twice a day to decrease the pain and inflammation.
Adequate rest is important after major surgery. This might give you relief.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to ask any more queries.

hello doc. kindly go through the scan pages please
Brief Answer:
Rest and good diet are important after surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query. I understand your concern. I saw your all reports.
In my opinion all your reports like Urine culture ,liver function test, Fasting blood sugar and Hb are normal. But neutrophils are slightly in the upper range which is common in times of mild inflammation. I knew from your history that you have taken antibiotics.
The rapid heart rate, head numbness, on and off chest pain and feeling that everything is moving from place to place are all non specific symptoms and they might be due to stress and tension you are facing.
Along with laxatives you need to take adequate fluids and good diet as I said in your previous query.
Stress also might cause constipation and also decrease the milk output. So dont worry. Nothing is wrong in your body or bowels. Because if any abnormality were there it would have detected in MRI. Just there is mild inflammation over the scar which is causing the symptoms and it will subside soon.
Sorry the scar is not seen in the pic to give any opinion on it.
Adequate rest and good diet is much important after surgery for better healing.
If any fever develops along with increased heart rate it might suggest infection. Then you might need antibiotics after physical examination by your gynaecologist.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to ask any more queries.

thanks doc..still my problem is persisting..should I go for an abdominal x ray?? I have googled for my problem and I could correlate my symptoms with either adhesions or peritonitis..is there any test that can help me for detection of these ???
Brief Answer:
Xray might not be needed
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query.I understand your concern.I am glad to answer you again.
In my opinion mild adhesions might be commonly seen post surgery and they might not cause symptoms. And formation of adhesions depends on the nature of the body. And it varies in different individuals.
Peritonitis is infection of abdominal cavity where in there is high grade fever, vomitings and severe pain abdomen. Here the patient s general condition will not be stable and mostly requires hospital admission for management.
So these options might not be the cause for your symptoms. And delayed healing along with inflammation might causing you the symptoms.
But kindly let me know your temperature recording by thermometer and your complete blood count and any above said symptoms in order to rule out peritonitis. Abdominal Xray might not be required.
Looking forward to hear from you.

thanks doc..I dnt have high fever..but low grade fever like feelng on nd off ..I consulted a general surgeon today nd he has given me one 5 days course of zanocin oz again. but again after taking the medicine I m having feeling of breathlessness ...tingling in ears nd pain under rib cage..what is that I m going thru ..before this I had taken one 5 days course of o2 tab nd zinase xt...after that amikacin 500 mg nd pipzo 4.5 ml for 2 days thru iv..is this side effects of these antibiotics .for how long this zanocin can be taken..I feel I have taken hell lot of medication nd will die because of them ..but if I dnt take infection resurfaces..in a deep fix..pls help..not getting a proper diagnosis or treatment.
Brief Answer:
Zanocin oz is taken for 5 days
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your information.I understand your concern.
In my opinion tab.zanocin oz is a antibiotic containing ofloxacin and ornidazole. It is to be taken for 5 days.It is good for skin and soft tissue infections.
Ofcourse you have taken many antibiotics till now even upto higher side but its ok when situation demands.
So just relax finish off this course because its not good to leave in middle and infection might flare up.You might not any medicines furthur.
The symptoms you are saying might be due to these medicines.Gastritis is so much reported due to antibiotics and it will subside after you complete them.
As you have low grade fever it might be due to mild inflammation over the scar and nothing like peritonitis so relax.
Theres no serious problem in you just improper rest and improper food might have delayed healing.
Take high protein diet like egg white daily, adequate fluids to releive constipation pain killers like Tablet.Lyser D if neededand good rest.Things will settle down soon dont worry.Nothing will happen to you .And you will be fine soon.
Hope this satisfies your query.

mam what does my mri report indicates of that triangular focus..is it some kind of fluid or pus? also if there is mild inflammation will that set up from this zanocin course..I feel like sometimes as if someone has put cold drops in my body anywhere just for a second..I had this same feeling also when I was hospitalised and given iv antibiotics..there also I was given inj orni for two days??? doc am I really on a right set of treatment??
Brief Answer:
mild inflammation might subside with antibiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I got your query.
I understand your concern. I saw your MRI report.
In my opinion, the triangular focus over the scar is due to post operative changes as per radiologist. And it is clearly said that there is no fluid or blood collection.
So there might be nothing but for mild edema.
As there is no fluid or blood collection no need to worry.
The unnecessary reopening of scar might weaken the abdominal wall. If there is any collection there might be need for opening.
And if there is any infection in the body there will be elevated counts and leading to fever.
You have used pretty good antibiotics till now. Don't worry. If there is mild inflammation it might subside with zanocin course.
Kindly let me know your complete blood counts so that to know if there is any infection.
And relax. Do not take stress.
You are under correct treatment.
All non specific symptoms you are feeling might be due to stress.
Looking forward to hear from you.

doc I m still having chest8 pain .tachycardia tremors and headache after taking zanocin..what is the maximum dosage that can be taken as since XXXXXXX im m taking in the way I have attached the file...does overdose of amikacin or pipzo have caused this..I m also given nuroday and taking bevon for three days..and darolac for last 30 days..tday i m feeling feverish with backache and pain under rib on right side..pls tell whats going on ..i also take montair lc and levolin as i m asthmatic...
Brief Answer:
They might be the sideeffects of ofloxacin
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the ofloxacin has sideeffects like gastritis, increased heart rate, ringing in ears, headache, nausea, vomitings etc.
The chest pain and pain under the ribs might be attributed to ofloxacin induced gastritis.
The ofloxacin can be taken about 400 mg twice daily upto 7 to 10 days.So you are not taking overdose dont worry.Amikacin and pipzo you have taken before and there is no chance to cause any effects now.So relax.
The backache is usually seen after delivery in lactating woman due to secretion of calcium in breast milk.So take a calcium tablet daily along with bevon which is also a multivitamin syrup and is quite useful.
The asthmatic drugs which you are taking are also not supposed to cause any sideeffects or interact with these medications.
Though you are feeling feverish it can be confirmed by recording the temperature by thermometer.
All symptoms are effect of medicines and stress and nothing serious in your body .Relax.
Hope this satisfies your query.

thanks doc and what abt the maximum dosage of ornidazole..can I continue with darolac?? also if u have seen my belly pic does this spiider like spikes are forming cellulitis..becoz I devloped them on 10th day with redness pain and warmth..it subsides wen I take antibiotics but comes again wen I stop them...I m really sorry doc but I m actually getting the feeling of smething that is not properly diagnosed.since my body is giving me some very wrong signals....Is it high time to go for a ct scan of abdomen?? will it be safe for me as I hve a very low immunity and feels lack of gud bacteria in my body..pls help
Brief Answer:
you can continue the daroloc
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, I got your query. I understand your concern.
In my opinion ornidazole maximum dosage is 1500 mg per day and can be taken for a week.
You can continue the daroloc as constipation post surgery is not good.
Strech marks might not be infected madam because they are usually red in people with fair skin. They feel edematous post delivery. Because the skin is stretched in pregnancy they are not seen during pregnancy. And after delivery they are seen more clearly.I saw the picture of your abdomen there is no cellulitis.
Nothing might be wrong with your body madam and dont put your body to many investigations.CT scan has high radiation so it is done only when necessary. Just relax madam. Eat nutritional diet and dont feel tension. You will be ok.
Hope this satisfies your query.

if thongs are fine then y do I feel tha my stomach would tear apart and will fall downwards..I was also given a lot of pressure on the upper side of my abdomen during operation to get my baby out..hve that hurt that somewhere
Brief Answer:
pressure in upper abdomen doesn't harm
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
welcome to healthcare magic.
I got your query.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the abdominal muscles are stretched during pregnancy and split during Cartesian section .
So after surgery you need to rest properly and take proteinaceous diet to regain the muscle power.
So the symptoms you are feeling might be due to laxity of abdominal muscles and abdominal wall. This feeling is quite common post delivery.
At the time of baby delivery during caesarian section application of pressure in upper abdomen is routinely done .
That will not cause any harm .That is not the cause for your symptoms.Dont worry.
Hope this satisfies your query.
