What Causes Abdominal Pain?

Question: My 16 year old daughter has had a cold for a week. Is feeling better. She thought that her seafood at a restaurant last night did not taste right, so after a couple bites she stopped eating it. No vomiting or diarhrea. She woke up this morning feeling dizzy and a sharp stabbing pain a couple of times in her left side at her waist level. What could this be?
Brief Answer:
Urinary tract infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
At her age anything serious is hardly possible. Lower left abdominal pain can be caused by urinary tract infection, stones or ovarian cyst.
Urinary tract issues give usually frequent urinating, burning while urinating, fever, back pain.
Any food associated issue would give at least loose stools or nausea so food poisoning does not seem to be the reason.
I suggest your daughter to have urine analysis, blood work and abdominal ultrasound.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
