What Causes Abdominal Swelling And Pain Below The Rib Cage?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: Hello, I experience abdominal swelling once every couple of weeks for the last year or so. I look 9 months pregnant when this occurs. This usually resolves within a day, however, this time it has lasted for 3 days so far with no change. I feel pressure in my abdomen and pain below my rib cage. My recent blood work shows a high sed rate, high c-reactive protein, high ALT and low lipase. What could be going on?

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. You are reporting to have abdominal swelling plus pain below the rib cage. Elevated PCR and sedimentation is indicative for an inflammation proces at your body.
2.Puting on all together your symptoms and blood work results , I would recommend to do :
- abdominal ultrasound to better evaluate gallbladder and liver.
Inflamation of gallbladder due to sludge or stones can mimic your symptoms and high ALT, CRP and sedimentation .
- If you have done GGT and phosphatase alkaline, I would like to know your results.
Meantime I suggest to :
- increase physical activity
- avoid fatty foods
- use simethicone to low gas production
- avoid constipation using plenty of water.
Hope it was helpful to you!
