What Causes Acute Pain In Joints After Discontinuation Of Montelukast?

Question: 41 yo female. Hx of Psoriatic Arthritis in mid 30's. Only treated with NSAIDs, diet and lifestyle; better after pregnancy. Recently took 3 months of Montelukast for particularly bad allergy season in California. Stopped taking allergy meds and noticed immediate regression in arthritic symptoms - acute pain, burning sensation consistent with the original pains, but in different joints. Curious if this could be as a direct result of the allergy meds interfering with the immune system? And if so, will see primary to get a better game plan for next year,
Brief Answer:
Montelukast could have been suppressing the trigger
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Many factors can trigger an exacerbation of psoriasis including stress, infections, certain medicines and allergens in food and the atmosphere.
It is possible that the allergy related triggers were suppressed while you were on Montelukast and with the stopping of of it, these triggers have produced the aggravation.
