What Causes Anal Itching And Pricking Sensation During Bowel Movement?

Question: Hello Dr, my four year old daughter has been having anal itching and pricking while passing stools. Could it be because if worms? Her doctor suggested lanzol junior. Please advise if this is the right medicine. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You are right, worm infestation - no need for Lanzol

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... you are perfectly right, this is not gastritis or Gastro oesophageal Reflux for which Lansoprazole has to be used. This is worm infestation. You might as well stop Junior Lanzol.

The Other associated symptoms could be handling of genitals or itching at the anal region or passing motion are stomach ache immediately after food or it could also present as teeth grinding at night (sleep brixism).

The best medicine for this is Albendazole.

If I were your pediatrician I would suggest giving Syrup Albendazole 10ml today and another 10ml 10 days later.

If she's anemic I would also a 3 month course of iron supplements.
