What Causes Arrhythmia While On Thyroid Medicines In An Elderly Person?
Question: I am 55 YO female. I am on thyroid meds and just had back surgery where they told me my magnesium is low. I have low heart rate. My heart has been skipping about eight beats per min when I take my pulse. Pulse is 64. This just started this evening. Should I go to a ER?
Brief Answer:
electrocardiogram, 24 hour holter test
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query.
Based on the information you may be having arrhythmia, but to confirm that, physical examination and investigation is essential. Low magnesium may be the cause. It is better to get examined by the cardiologist.
The best way to be sure is to do electrocardiogram. If the missed beat does not occur during the test, then a 24 hour Holter test can be done.
This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
