What Causes Auditory Hallucinations And Abusive Behavior In A Person?

Question: I think my mother might be displaying symptoms of schizophrenia. I don't know where to start to get her help. She is hearing voices and they are getting progressively more abusive, (i.e. dirty words and acts ). It is really hard to help her because she lives in Florida and I live in XXXXXXX She lives with my Dad, and he has tried to get her to a doctor, but she insists that the voices are "electronic mind control" and she is not sick. She refuses to see a doctor for help. My dad is at his wits end and I don't know what to do to help. She is in the middle a a very bad episode right now, so action is urgent. The voices are telling her she can only sleep 2 hours a night and only eat 4 oz a day. I am worried about her health.

Brief Answer:
needs antipsychotic drug treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
Dear, I can understand your concerns for your mother.

The symptoms of hearing abusive and ordering voices, feeling that the voices are "electronic mind control" and not accepting this as abnormal, is fairly suggestive of schizophrenia.

This would need an urgent psychiatric intervention.
Antipsychotic drugs like olanzapine or risperidone needs to be given to her as early as possible.
These drugs are available in injectable forms for those who are not willing to take the drugs orally.

If your mother is not accepting to visit a doctor, I think you should call the local emergency medical services as this a psychiatric emergency. I wish I could help you further; however based on your description, I will strongly recommend you call local emergency service and take if further.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.
