What Causes Back Tightness And Soreness While Bending?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jul 2015
Question: My back started feeling like it's sore and tight after bending for awhile. I had no pain. The muscles feel tight especially when I stand for longer periods. Would this kind of tightness/soreness go away on its own.. How long will it take? I appreciate your help

Brief Answer:
Back pain due to posture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
From description it seems to be mechanical back pain, more related to posture while working.
For pain and spasm to go you have to do back exercises to relive the spasm associated with this. Doing hot fomentation and applying muscle relaxant gel will also be helpful in relieving the spasm.
Correct your posture while sitting. Take frequent breaks during your work.
Lie on hard bed. Avoid forward bending and lifting heavy weight.
You can take anti inflammatory drug like ibuprofen to relieve pain.
In case the pain is severe then you can get oral muscle relaxants prescribed from your physician. It will take 7-10 days to subside.
I hope this answers your query.

Today I had to stand at work for long periods. I felt some pressure and discomfort on my spine. Do you think this is due to weak muscles /spasms? Should I see a specialist or start an exercise program? I'm just worried that this pain, discomfort will persist. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Exercise will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The pressure on the spine after standing for long hours is likely to be due to muscle fatigue. It is likely to be related to weak core muscles. You need regular back strengthening exercises to help this problem. Do consult a physiotherapist for it. A few weeks of exercise will help in relieving the pain.
Hope my answer is helpful.
