What Causes Benign Premature Ventricular Contractions During Ovulation And Period?
Question: Diaganosed years ago with benign PVC's. I notice them more around ovulation and my period. I know with me they are hormone related.
Last night i was awoken by forceful PVC's that actually hurt. Followed by extremley fast heart rate.
I calmed myself down didnsome deep breathing and it went back to normal.
My question, can overheating cause irregular rhythms? I did have a tracksuit on and heavy bedding and was in the middle of a dream when my heart woke me up.
I am so worried and dont want to keep on going back to a cardioligist or ER.

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
Hormone imbalances (that are more common during ovulation and periods), anxiety and extreme weather temperatures (overheating or extreme cold) can trigger PVCs and palpitations.
On that occasions I recommend to stay calm and breath deep and slowly. PVCs are a benign arrhythmia and never can be life threatening.
However I would recommend to do once a year a complete cardiac workup including:
- ecg
- Holter monitoring
- Cardiac ECHO
- Stress test
Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
