What Causes Bite On Leg With Circular Ring Around It?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Aug 2014
Question: On July 10th my son got a bite on his leg. We noticed it yesterday and XXXXXXX noticed that it was warm compared to the rest of his body. This morning I took pic of it because it now looks like there is a circular ring around the bite. Should I be worried? What should I do? By the way I've been disinfecting it with alcohol and applying hydrocortisone but 0.1% oint 15gm after about 3 time daily.

Brief Answer:
Skin and soft tissue infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

It would have been even more helpful if you had mentioned what bite it was. But whatever it is, it looks like a skin and soft tissue infection. The recent onset around the bite suggests that it is an erythema and I suggest you to stop Hydrocortisone cream as it is a steroid and if we are dealing with a bacterial infection it might be deleterious. I have certain questions -
1. Is there any fever?
2. What about the redness on shin which is even more larger than the one which is around the bite?
2. Can you tell what bite it is?

I suggest you stop hydrocortisone cream and see your paediatrician as skin and soft tissue infection will require antibiotics.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

I didn't answer what the bite was because we don't know what bit him. We at first thought it was a mosquito bite but after how we saw how it looked aftet we thought otherwise. He hasnt had any fever which I've checked constantly for. The only thing he's had is diarrhea but I don't know if it relates to the bite. I'll stop the use of the ointment and schedule and app with his pediatrician.

Brief Answer:
Please see a pediatrician

Detailed Answer:
Hi...thanks for your trust in me.

You have not answered my 2nd question - What about the redness on shin which is even more larger than the one which is around the bite?
But if there is not fever, unlikely to be a cellulitis or skin and soft tissue infection. But I am happy that you are taking him to a paediatrician.

Please keep me posted as to what is the diagnosis and follow up as direct examination is the gold standard in medical practice and I would like to know what my brother paediatrician has decided and diagnosed.

I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.
