Most likely it will be a transurethral resectionn of bladder tumor
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. You have been having blood in urine recently for which you have approached the urologist.
2. He said you need a cystoscopy (procedure done by inserting camera theough penis to see urinary passage and bladder) and felt that there was a possible block or stricture causing the blood in urine.
3. When he finished doing the cystoscopy, he said that there is a small growth in the bladder that is causing the bleeding and you need a surgery.
Elaborating on the above, there is a bladder tumor, probably in its early stages inside the lumen or the urinary bladder that is causing blood in urine. Such tumors can be benign or malignant. The surgery is to remove as much of the growth possible and study the cells under a microscope.
The surgery for a small growth is commonly done using a cystoscope and the urologist will see through the camera and then remove the growth. The operation is called a transurethral resection of a bladder tumour (TURB). Spinal anesthesia is generally used for most patients to reduce pain and discomfort during the procedure. The surgeon will take care and stop any bleeding during surgery. Following the surgery, there might be little amount of blood in urine for the next few days with pain.
The pathology report of the growth is most important for you and this will guide further treatment depending on its nature, benign or malignant.
Above mentioned techniques are the commonest when dealing with a small urinary bladder growth. Please discuss with your urologist and should you have doubts then we can discuss in greater detail.
Wishing you a quick recovery.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
